Cast Your Cares

Cast Your Cares

“What is wrong with me?” I thought as I swept up the shards of glass strewn across my kitchen floor. Moments ago I had knocked a mason glass onto the floor, shattering it into hundreds of tiny pieces. My older daughter dragged her sister into the other room to keep her safe, but the baby was screaming to be let back into the room and my older daughter repeatedly asked if I was done yet.

I berated myself in frustration for my silly mistake. I had already not been in a great mood, but this broken glass and my whining children were about to send me over the edge.

But, before I reached that boiling point of frustration, I took a breath. I prayed it out, and took it to the LORD.

I have a hard time forgiving myself for mistakes, and I already was having trouble with a big one. The mistake of breaking my mason jar just rubbed salt in the wound.

I told the LORD my thoughts, my feelings, my frustrations. I shared with him my fears and anxieties.

Why?

Because he cares. He cares about the pain I felt this week after finding out someone I had been meaning to visit died. He cares about the grief I feel over my big, beautiful mason jar that I had used for years to make sun tea that now lay broken at my feet.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”

1 Peter 5:7

Being a Jewish man, Peter knew the Hebrew Bible.

Here, he is borrowing directly from Psalms 55:22

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken”

The LORD cares about you.

Whether your worries are big or little, serious or silly, the LORD cares about them because he cares about you.

What could have ended in a yelling match between me and my children was resolved because I took the time to take my concerns and frustrations to the LORD, who in turn reminded me of his love.

Part of this journey, this whole resetting your mind to live without fear journey, is to realize that the LORD cares about your worries and WANTS you to take them to him. He loves you dearly. He wants the best for you.

Take it to him. Whatever it is. Whatever is troubling your heart. Tell him. Turn it over.

He wants to hear from you because he cares.
