The Underwear That Changed My World
The best thing I did for my family this month?
I bought new underwear.
In a mouse with a cookie fashion, the cascading results of that small act has benefitted everyone in my household and my immediate circle.
It might sound silly, but hear me out.
I have a hard time buying myself new clothes, let alone new underwear. I just threw away a pair that was over a decade old.
It’s easy for me to drop money on other things, but for some reason every time I think of spending $10 on one really nice pair of underwear, I can’t justify it.
During pregnancy and in the immediate postpartum I kept putting it off because I figured I would lose all my baby weight quickly.
Spoiler alert: I didn’t.
I am the heaviest in my life not pregnant, and that’s ok.
However, it's hard to feel good about yourself when nothing fits and you are wearing some ratty old Hanes.
I went and bought new clothes, things that fit better, but I still couldn’t spring for those underwear.
Then, I was FORCED to buy a pair. I needed $6 more to get free shipping from an online clothes order, so I threw a pair of nice clearance underwear on the order.
When they came in the mail I finally saw the light. My drawer full of underwear that was either too small or way past the expiration was not helping anyone. And it kinda felt nice having something pretty under my jeans.
So I bought some more.
And things in my household shifted.
By wearing new, sexy underwear, I felt better about myself.
I took the initiative to dress nicer.
Feeling better and dressing nicer, I was initiating sex more with my husband.
More sex means better intimacy.
When our intimacy improved, our marriage was closer…
…and both of us were in better moods.
This was better for not only our children, but our employees and clients as well.
If you are reading this it is quite possible my new underwear has had a positive effect on your life.
A small act of me taking care of myself and my needs blossomed into something that affected everyone around me.
What self care have you been overlooking as a busy mom? What do you keep putting off because you are preoccupied with everyone else?
When Jesus told us to love others as ourselves we often overlook the “ourselves” part. You can’t properly love other people if you aren’t loving yourself.
Stop making excuses.
Go get the massage. Paint your nails. Buy the underwear.
You and your family need it.
As a thank you for taking the time to read this, I want to bless 5 wives or moms with a little cash to buy yourself something you need. Comment below and tell me something you’ve been putting off doing for yourself.
I’ll pick 5 random ladies to get $20 (via Venmo or PayPal) to spend on yourself however you need to. I’ll pick the winners on 7/17/21, so drop your comment below before that!
